Arsenal are working on their plans for the January transfer window with a few positions in mind, but they won’t panic buy or be held to ransom.

The Evening Standard report that Arsenal are working on transfer plans for January, but whilst the club aren’t afraid to back Mikel Arteta in the market, they’ll only move for players they believe will improve the squad.

The Standard claim Arsenal are interested in a wide forward, with a left-sided centre-back and a midfielder also long-term targets.

Mark Irwin reports for The S*n that Arteta will have £50m to spend in the January window, and they’re hoping to recruit a couple of players with that money.

Plans to return for Douglas Luiz have reportedly been scrapped in the wake of the midfielder’s new contract, but the Gunners could instead look to sign Danilo of Palmeiras. A £26m bid is in the offing, according to the report.

On that subject, Fabrizio Romano reports for CaughtOffside that Arsenal have indeed been following Danilo for a long time, and he was discussed internally over the summer.

However, Romano adds that at the moment, there are no talks ongoing for the midfielder. If Arsenal are planning a January move for Danilo, they evidently aren’t moving on it yet.

The Daily Mail also previously reported that intend to spend again in January, with a new central midfielder on their radar.

At the time, moves for Aston Villa’s Luiz or Palmeiras’ Danilo looked the most likely, so Luiz’s new contract does seemingly push Danilo to the fore. But with a couple of months and a World Cup still to go before the window opens, a lot can change.
