Daily Cannon have learned that 19-year-old striker Khayon Edwards has been called up to the Arsenal first-team squad for their trip to Leeds United this weekend, following his debut call-up to the bench against FK Bodo/Glimt this week.

We understand Edwards is the only Arsenal youngster involved in the trip, with the Premier League having a smaller bench than the Europa League games.

The decision to take Edwards is obviously a huge boost for the player, after we reported earlier today that he was super motivated by Thursday’s call-up to get further chances. His next opportunity has come around sooner than many might have expected.

Edwards’ spot in the travelling Arsenal squad doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll make the bench on matchday. Mikel Arteta often brings an extra man to away games just in case. But it will be a good experience for the youngster either way.

The main concern around Edwards’ call-up is that Gabriel Jesus is currently an injury doubt. Mikel Arteta wouldn’t confirm whether the player would be available for Sunday, and now he’s calling up Edwards to the squad.

Of course, it could simply be precautionary, or if Edwards is the extra man then Jesus may well be fully fit and available. But it’s something to keep an eye on.
