The official Championship social media accounts posted on Monday to confirm that Charlie Patino is part of their latest Team of the Week.

Patino had won the Man of the Match award for Blackpool on Saturday, after a goal and an assist in their derby match against Preston North End.

Patino was making his seventh consecutive Championship start for Blackpool, and taking part in his first senior derby.

The midfielder’s game is generally about more than goals and assists, as he excels as a dribbler and with creative forward passing. But this match was an exception.

With the scores level at 1-1 in the 68th minute, Patino scored with a bending finish from outside the box, celebrating by shushing the away fans.

Patino then helped Blackpool double their advantage with an assist, crossing for Jerry Yates to head home for 3-1. The match finished 4-2.

“He’s sensational,” Blackpool striker Jerry Yates said afterwards. “He deserves all the credit. Hearing the fans singing his song for 90 minutes I bet is surreal, to be honest.

“He’s only young, but the way he has [taken] to the Championship is unbelievable. He’ll be a top, top player.”

Now earning a Team of the Week appearance as well as the Blackpool Man of the Match award, Patino is getting recognition from further afield than just his own supporters and teammates.

The Arsenal youngster will look to keep that going when Blackpool travel to Coventry on Saturday.
