Making his seventh consecutive Championship start for Blackpool, Charlie Patino took part in his first derby match against Preston North End on Saturday.

Patino’s game is generally about more than goals and assists, as he excels as a dribbler and with creative forward passing. But derby day turned out to be an exception for the 19-year-old.

With the scores level at 1-1 in the 68th minute, Patino scored with a bending finish from outside the box, celebrating by shushing the away fans.

Patino then helped Blackpool double their advantage with an assist, crossing for Jerry Yates to head home for 3-1.

There was still time for a little more late drama, with Preston scoring in the 89th minute before Blackpool sealed the points with a long-distance effort into an empty net after the Preston goalkeeper came up to try and bag an equaliser.

The match ended 4-2, and Patino was selected as Blackpool’s Man of the Match. You can watch the goals here, with Patino’s goal at 0:43 and his assist at 1:00.

The midfielder has endeared himself to the Blackpool fans once again, and his place in their side looks to be in little doubt right now.
