Aston Villa have struck an agreement with Wolves for their defensive midfielder, Leander Dendoncker, which could free them to sell Douglas Luiz to Arsenal who have made a bid of £20m.

Douglas Luiz only has one year left on his Aston Villa deal and Steven Gerrard’s club is adamant they won’t sell the player on deadline day.

But we’ve heard that sort of stuff before.

Now, Wolves have agreed to sell Leander Dendoncker to Villa for a fee of £13m which means they will have four defensive midfielders at the club, which seems a lot for a side of Villa’s size.

Luiz is said to be keen to sign for Arsenal and it looks like this could be a deal to keep a close eye on as Arsenal push to sign a player to replace Mohamed Elneny who has picked up a ‘bad’ injury.

Sky Sports News reported at midday that Arsenal have made a bid of £20m for Douglas Luiz.
