Lucas Torreira made a speedy return from injury over the weekend, returning to the pitch as a substitute for Fiorentina.
Lucas Torreira made his comeback from injury with a 23-minute appearance off the bench against leader-leaders AC Milan on Sunday.
Fiorentina had previously confirmed that Torreira was forced off in their match against Juventus with bruising on his left hip. Further assessments revealed a grade one lesion on his transverse abdominal muscle.
But less than two weeks later, Torreira has already made his return to the pitch.
The midfielder was unable to help Fiorentina to a win against Milan, with Sunday’s hosts closing out a 1-0 victory to bring them one step closer to winning the Serie A title.
Still, it will be a boost to Fiorentina to have Torreira back for their final three fixtures against Roma, Sampdoria, and Juventus.
Before his injury, Torreira had scored three goals in his previous four league games for Fiorentina, including a big-game goal away to Inter Milan. He won his second 2022 Fiorentina Player of the Month award in March.
They’ll need him at his best now if they’re to keep any lingering hopes of European football alive, as they sit three points behind the Europa League and Europa Conference League places.
Reports suggest Torreira is set to join Fiorentina permanently this summer, with Arsenal and Fiorentina in talks over a deal.
Torreira has a €15m option to buy in his contract, and with his positive recent form, speculation is growing over what happens next.
