SportBild (via Sport Witness) report that Arsenal hold an interest in Marcel Sabitzer ahead of the summer transfer window.

Christian Falk confirms that Arsenal and Atletico Madrid are both interested in the Bayern midfielder, who is expected to command a transfer fee of €15m.

That’s obviously a pretty low fee, but perhaps unsurprising considering Sabitzer’s underwhelming first campaign for Bayern Munich.

Sabitzer was one of the key members of the RB Leipzig team under Julian Nagelsmann, and he followed the manager to Bayern last summer.

But after nine goals, seven assists, and 39 appearances (35 starts) last season for Leipzig, Sabitzer has just one goal, no assists, and 27 appearances (eight starts) since joining Bayern in August.

Sabitzer is still performing well with Austria, scoring three goals and assisting one in six games this season.

SportBild claim Sabitzer will be allowed to leave in the summer, so Bayern can save on his salary.

Arsenal have been linked with Sabitzer for a couple of years now, with reports first cropping up after he scored twice against Spurs in 2020, before returning in January and last summer.

Perhaps this summer is a better opportunity for Arsenal to complete a deal. Sabitzer’s value is apparently a bit lower, and the Gunners are likely to focus on a midfield acquisition or two.
