Arsenal had another youngster playing above his age group for England at the weekend, as Ethan Nwaneri made an international start.

Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri is just 14 years old, but he was named in the starting lineup for the England u16s at the weekend as they faced Germany.

The young midfielder has also already made his debut for the Arsenal u18s, albeit in slightly artificial circumstances.

Nwaneri made a start against Reading u18s last May, but both teams had agreed to name younger sides for the match.

All the same, it was a competitive u18 Premier League fixture, and Nwaneri went on to score in a 6-1 win for Arsenal that day.

The 14-year-old isn’t the only Arsenal youngster to feature above his age group for England over the last week or so. Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly and Amario Cozier-Duberry both started for the England u17s this week too.

The England u17s had a couple of friendly matches against Scotland, playing out a 3-0 win last Tuesday before a 2-2 draw in the rematch on Thursday.

The big news that day was that 15-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly was making his first appearance in an England u17 squad for Tuesday’s game, and followed that up with his first start on Thursday.

The midfielder only turned 15 in September, but he’s already captained the England u16s and now stepped up to the u17s.

Joining him in the squad was Amario Cozier-Duberry, who is still just 16 himself, but he’s a regular with the Arsenal u18s and the England u17s.

Like Lewis-Skelly, Cozier-Duberry started the second game after being on the bench for the first.

The Arsenal academy continues to churn out promising talents, and these three are the latest to earn international recognition.
