Sead Kolasinac is set to leave Arsenal this month, with Marseille joining Watford in showing an interest in the defender.

The Daily Mail report that Sead Kolasinac is set to leave Arsenal in the January transfer window, as his contract edges closer to its summer expiry date.

The defender is wanted abroad, with Marseille interested in signing him.

Marseille have obviously already signed Matteo Guendouzi and William Saliba on loan deals this season.

Guendouzi’s move contained an obligation to buy, so he’ll be gone in the summer, but the current plan is for Saliba to return to Arsenal.

With Guendouzi and Saliba impressing in France, it’s perhaps no surprise that Marseille would look to return for another out-of-favour Arsenal player.

In Kolasinac’s case, it wouldn’t matter whether it was a loan or a permanent move, given his Arsenal deal is in its final six months anyway.

But the Gunners will hope they can get a modest fee and remove his wages from their books.

Watford are also in the mix, and the Watford Observer recently reported that the club had held initial talks with Arsenal over a potential loan.

The talks focused on a temporary switch with shared wages, but they were far from conclusive. The player’s wages are an obstacle, even shared.

The plan from Watford’s side would be to essentially give Kolasinac a test run until the summer and then sign him on a permanent deal as a free agent if things work out.

The Telegraph initially claimed that Watford were on the search for a centre-back, and they were considering Kolasinac.

Sead Kolasinac returned to light training with Arsenal at the end of December.
