Folarin Balogun has been nominated for Premier League 2 Player of the Month, and there’s little doubt in my mind he should win the award.

The Premier League 2 announced their eight u23 nominees for their November Player of the Month award this week, and Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun made the list.
Arsenal have had a player nominated for every PL2 Player of the Month award this season.
In August, it was Omari Hutchinson. In September, Balogun got his first nomination of the season. In October, Salah-Eddine Oulad M’hand was up for the prize.
Each time, the Arsenal nominee missed out on the award, but they missed out to players who were equally deserving. This time around, there’s no one more deserving than Balogun.
Balogun was unstoppable in November. He started the month with a vital equaliser against Plymouth Argyle, a goal which ended up seeing the Arsenal u21s through to the knockout stages of the EFL Trophy. He also scored in the subsequent penalty shootout.
The striker then scored a fantastic 96th-minute equaliser against Leicester City to complete a three-goal comeback, with all the goals coming in injury time and Balogun also assisting Hutchinson’s goal before his equaliser.
Next up, Arsenal managed a win over Blackburn Rovers despite going down to 10 men, with Balogun spinning on the ball to score in the 89th minute.
Balogun ended the month by scoring a hat-trick in a 5-3 defeat to Derby County. He should have had four goals, with one of his strikes incorrectly ruled out for offside.
Even when the Arsenal u23s weren’t on their game, Balogun clearly was.

The 20-year-old ended the month with seven goal contributions, at least two more than any of the other nominees.
With all due respect, Jon Rowe’s five goals for Norwich City were against lesser opposition in the PL2’s lower division, and no one else even managed five.
Balogun should be the clear winner, but you never know with these things. We’ll find out the result next Monday.
