Arsenal are thinking about a free transfer move for Andrea Belotti, but the player may favour a deal with AC Milan next summer.

Four years ago, Arsenal were quite heavily linked to Torino striker Andrea Belotti, and they weren’t the only ones. Chelsea, Manchester United, PSG and others were all reported to be chasing the player with a €100m release clause.

Yet four years later, Belotti is still playing for Torino. He’s now over six seasons into his spell with the Serie A club, and his contract is finally going to come to an end next summer.

Calciomercato report that the 27-year-old isn’t going to renew his deal, and he’s fast becoming one of the most coveted free transfer opportunities in Serie A. The same outlet claim Inter Milan, Arsenal, and AC Milan are all considering the move.

The AC Milan move appeals to Belotti the most, as he’s always been a fan of the club.

There’s obviously a reason why Belotti still hasn’t left Torino. After his fantastic 2016/17 season, scoring 26 league goals, he’s totalled 10, 15, 16, and 13 in the next four seasons. In 2021/22, he has two goals from his first six games.

Those aren’t terrible tallies, particularly considering Torino have finished 16th and 17th in the last two campaigns. Belotti has been their top scorer in five of the last six seasons. But it’s certainly not enough to get anyone to activate your €100m release clause.

On a free transfer, perhaps he’ll draw a bit more interest ahead of next summer.
