Chelsea are willing to pay Andrea Belotti’s £89m release clause after missing out on Romelu Lukaku, according to reports.
- Chelsea need a striker with Diego Costa expected to leave
- They missed out on Lukaku
- Arsenal were believed to be “leading the race” for Belotti back in May
It’s not been the most straightforward of transfer windows for Chelsea so far. Usually so efficient at getting deals done, Chelsea have had some difficulty securing a striker in the last few days.
With Diego Costa expected to leave, Lukaku was earmarked as his replacement, but he went to Manchester United. Now the Independent reports that Chelsea will look to Torino’s Andrea Belotti, who could cost English clubs £89m.
Arsenal were said to be “leading the race” for Belotti back in May, but ultimately didn’t have a serious interest in the Italian and went on to sign Alexandre Lacazette instead.
Belotti scored 26 times in Serie A last season, and has been compared to former Italy strikers Christian Vieri and Luca Toni.
