Over the summer, Arsenal were linked with Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez, before one report suggested Tottenham Hotspur had even agreed a fee to sign him from Inter Milan.

Things started to die down after that. The player’s agent told the media his client was happy at Inter, despite confirming bids from other clubs. Romelu Lukaku’s sale to Chelsea also helped ensure that Inter weren’t in dire financial need anymore.

Then in September, reports suggested Martinez was ready to sign a new five-year deal with Inter, seemingly putting an end to the exit rumours. This week, Martinez finally signed that new contract, lasting until 2026.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Inter Milan rejected proposals from Atletico Madrid and Spurs over the summer, and they promised him a new deal afterwards. They’ve increased his salary and removed his former release clause.

The 24-year-old is now set to remain in Serie A until his peak years. He has five goals and one assist in 12 games this season.

Arsenal are seemingly on the hunt for a new striker next year, with Alexandre Lacazette’s contract coming to an end in the summer. It’s going to be hard to pry Martinez away from Inter Milan now.
