Following Mikel Arteta’s recent comments that Gabriel Martinelli had suffered a minor injury in training and was a doubt for Monday’s match against Crystal Palace, it was encouraging to see the youngster back in training on Saturday.

Martinelli was pictured alongside other members of the first team squad at the weekend, suggesting he’s at least fit enough to take part in training.

Of course, that doesn’t mean they’ll want to risk him for a Premier League fixture, but it’s another sign that the injury is nothing too serious.

Martinelli remained with the Arsenal squad over the international break. He was involved in the friendly match against QPR last week, but Arteta then said the winger was a injury doubt.

“Unfortunately, he got injured last week,” Arteta explained. “It’s a minor injury. We don’t know if he’s going to be available for Monday.

“Obviously the injuries that he has suffered have been big setbacks with him. We sometimes forget his age, what he’s done and where he is.”

Many of the questions and concerns on Martinelli obviously stem from his limited participation with Arsenal this campaign. After starting the two opening games of the Premier League season, the 20-year-old hasn’t played another minute in the competition.

It’s true that Martinelli’s injury problems have set him back, and hopefully, he’ll break back into the team once he recaptures his pre-injury form.
