David Ornstein reports for The Athletic that Crystal Palace are ready to pay around £10m for Eddie Nketiah, a valuation shared by a German club that have already made two approaches for the player. But Arsenal are currently holding out for closer to £20m.

Brighton previously explored including Nketiah in the deal to sell Arsenal Ben White, but that didn’t appeal to the Gunners at the time.

Instead, Arsenal tried to extend Nketiah’s contract, which expires next year. While they made that attempt, Brighton became less and less likely as a potential destination.

With Arsenal’s failure to extend the young striker’s deal, they really do need to sell this summer. Otherwise, they’re losing him for free in 2022. You’d hope the fact a couple of clubs are interested in the signing would push one of them to accept a fee compromise.

Nketiah has been linked with a transfer all summer, but his chances of leaving were hit by an injury late in pre-season. The forward was in good form at the time, playing well against Chelsea after scoring against Watford and Rangers.

It does seem like the right time to move on, particularly when there aren’t many chances ahead of him. But Arsenal also do need to bring in a decent fee to fund their summer, so I wouldn’t expect them to just give in.
