Reiss Nelson leaving Arsenal this summer won’t surprise many people, although it will likely anger a few who feel he hasn’t really been given a fair chance to show what he can do.

Arsenal have reportedly offered the winger a new contract with another loan to follow as they look to protect their investment, but players don’t sell their houses just to go on loan.

The deal would extend his current contract from 2023 to 2024. Hardly a massive show of faith in his future from Arsenal.

As such, Nelson is said to be considering his options, and he has a lot of them. Hertha BSC have a long-standing interest in the winger, and Olympiacos are also keen. He also has several other suitors in the Bundesliga, including teams that finished in the top half last season.

Olympiacos have been the most persistent side in terms of rumours but they can never afford any Arsenal players, despite seemingly insisting on being linked with a lot of them. They also only want him on loan, which would back up the point about them never having any money. A loan without a new deal would make no sense for Arsenal.

Nelson made one first-team appearance for Arsenal in 2021, and it was on 9 January in the FA Cup. He was only in the Premier League squad four times after the turn of the year. Nelson did play a few times for the u23s, and performed well, but it didn’t lead to further integration in Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Back in May, Arteta claimed there were no issues with Nelson in training, and it was just a case of there being too much competition in front of him. The manager also blamed himself for not using the winger more.

It could also be the case that Nelson is looking to move to another area within London, so the fact his house is up for sale isn’t definitive proof of anything.

However, it doesn’t seem likely that we will see Nelson in an Arsenal shirt again, beyond a pre-season appearance or two to make up numbers.

Reiss Nelson is currently valued at around £8m.
