To kick off the new week, Arsenal confirmed the signing of Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht. They added that the midfielder would wear “Sambi” on his shirt and the number 23, contrary to earlier rumours about the number 48.

Arsenal didn’t disclose the length of Sambi Lokonga’s contract, but the player’s agency have done so for them, writing on Instagram that it’s a four-year deal. Chris Wheatley has added on Twitter that there’s a one-year option to extend to 2026.

As you can see in the picture above, the 21-year-old has gone straight into pre-season training with Arsenal, having completed his self-isolation period in London before signing.

The former Anderlecht captain is now set to join his new teammates on their trip to Orlando for the Florida Cup, a pre-season tournament involving Inter Milan, Everton, and Millonarios.

It’s good news that at least a couple of Arsenal’s new signings will be involved in the vast majority of pre-season, with Nuno Tavares already having made his debut and scored his first goal. Sambi Lokonga will try to make a similarly positive first impression.
