Matteo Guendouzi is said to be ‘one step away’ from a return to France with Marseille, despite late interest from Benfica and Borussia Dortmund.

Matteo Guendouzi is believed to have had an agreement with Marseille to return to France for some time now with the only sticking point being the agreement between Arsenal and the Ligue 1 side. Admittedly, that’s quite a big sticking point.

Sensing an opportunity, Benfica and Borussia Dortmund decided that they would like to get involved, but it seems as if Marseille will win out in the end. Benfica, however, have possibly pulled out anyway, due to concerns over his injury.

According to a report from his home country, Guendouzi is ‘one step away from returning to France’.

The clubs, however, are still not in agreement. Arsenal want €20m, Marseille want a loan with an option, but they are keen to make the deal happen ‘as quickly as possible.’

Given that Guendouzi’s contract ends next summer, there is no chance of Arsenal sanctioning a loan move without getting him to sign a new contract first, which might explain why it was recently reported that they were trying to do just that.
