Granit Xhaka is ‘very comfortable’ at Arsenal according to his brother and won’t be leaving the club in January despite persistent Hertha Berlin rumours.

With Granit Xhaka falling out with Arsenal fans and Unai Emery using him to deflect critisicm away from himself, it seemed like Xhaka’s time at the club was all but over.

Stripped of the captaincy and given a few weeks away from the starting lineup, he has returned under Mikel Arteta and, for the most part, showed a willingness to pay more attention on the pitch where possible given his clear limitations.

Arteta is a huge fan of the player and wanted him for City but, despite his seemingly problem-free reintegration into the squad, rumours persisted about a move to Hertha Berlin who are in a worse position than Arsenal at present and have no real pedigree to fall back on unless you look back to the 30s when they won two league titles.

Xhaka had even agreed personal terms with Hertha, as confirmed by his own agent, and told teammates he was leaving, so it is clear that Arteta has changed his mind about remaining at the club. Until the end of the season, at least.

“Granit told me that he definitely wanted to stay in the Premier League,” Taulant Xhaka told t-online.de.

“I don’t know whether Hertha was a concrete option for him at all, but he’s very comfortable at Arsenal.”

Xhaka is under contract with Arsenal until 2023 after signing a new deal last season that also made him one of the highest earners at the club.
