Mesut Ozil’s time on Arsenal’s bench has cost the club £3,332,077 this season but it’s not as much as Alexis Sanchez has cost Manchester United to do the same.

Before you look at these figures it should be noted that whoever compiled it started from the point that Alexis and Mesut Ozil both earn the same. They don’t.

The Arsenal man is on £350kpw while Alexis is on closer to £600kpw when you factor in his bonuses, not that he has much cause to trigger many of those since he left London.

Anyway, regardless of that, the figures certainly make interesting reading and while we constantly hear about what a ‘waste of money’ it is to have Ozil on the bench when we pay him so much, we don’t often hear that about Alexis or the others on this list who have cost their clubs more than the German has cost Arsenal.

Liverpool have two players on the list, as do Manchester City while United have three.

Still, we all know United are incredibly wasteful with their money with little being said about it in the press.

But yes, let’s focus on Ozil. That’s not lazy at all…
