Hirving Lozano’s father has confirmed interest in his son from Barcelona, but insists that nothing is decided just yet, with the World Cup the priority.

The media have linked Lozano with a move to Arsenal a number of times over the last seven or eight months. Most recently ESPN Mexico reporter Rene Tovar claimed “Arsenal are after him and will pay anything to get ‘Chucky’”.

Late last year the forward was widely touted as an Alexis Sanchez replacement, given the Chilean’s impending departure. Spanish outlets reported a £42m bid from Arsenal for the player at the time. However, Lozano’s father is now suggesting Barcelona are heavily in the mix.

“There’s been an approach from Barça but there’s nothing clear at the moment,” he told ESPN. “When the World Cup’s over, we will have a better idea of the reality: if he will stay at PSV or move to another team.”

Arsenal are in the market for a wide player, based on the links to the likes of Gelson Martins. They might struggle to fight off competition from Barcelona on their current summer budget though.

Lozano scored 19 goals and assisted 11 from the wing in 2017/18 in the Netherlands, and got his first goal in a World Cup last week, scoring the winner against Germany. He’s now up to seven goal contributions for Mexico since September 2017.

If he keeps playing like that for the rest of the tournament, I wouldn’t be surprised if Barcelona made their interest official.
