Mathieu Flamini is currently on trial with La Liga club Getafe, according to reports.

The former Arsenal midfielder has been without a club since the summer.

He said earlier in the season that he was waiting for the right project to come along.

It seems that project could be in Spain, as Marca report that he’s on trial with Getafe.

He’s been training with the Spanish club, who need cover for injured midfielder, Markel Bergara.

Flamini has previously been on trial with Segunda side Rayo Vallecano, but evidently didn’t do enough to earn a contract.

The Frenchman’s last club was Crystal Palace, for whom he made 13 appearances.

Before that, he was enjoying an unlikely second stint at Arsenal.

He re-joined the club during the summer of 2013 and made a further 93 appearances before being released in 2016.

While the 33-year-old is searching for a new club, he’s been keeping busy off-the-pitch.

Flamini recently spoke at a Bioeconomy forum organised by the European Commission, and has had a hand in the search for more sustainable forms of energy.

So if the whole football thing is finally over, he has a decent backup career waiting for him.
