Arsenal are in grave danger of losing the most Premier League games in a season under Arsène Wenger, if they continue as they’ve started.

The most losses Arsenal have ever had in a season under Wenger is 11, back in 2005/06, when the Gunners needed help from a dodgy lasagna to finish in the top-four. So far this campaign the team have five defeats in just 15 league games.

That means that continuing in the current fashion, Arsenal would end up on 12 or 13 losses, higher than the 11 in the final season at Highbury. It’s not an entirely fair extrapolation, however.

Arsenal have already played all five of the other big-six clubs, three of them away from home. That means just two more big-six away trips in the next 23 league games, and one of those is at Wembley.

Even though the Gunners didn’t get a result against Manchester United, their two performances at home against the top clubs were significantly more impressive than the three away so far.

Other traditionally difficult fixtures for Wenger’s side are also out of the way, such as the visit to Stoke City. Nonetheless, if you lose all the fixtures you’re expected to lose, things can only get worse.

Arsenal need to put an unbeaten run together soon if they want to ensure they have a chance at Champions League qualification again this campaign, let alone avoiding setting a new defeats record in the league.
