Arsenal have won the second-most Premier League points ever.

Although the Premier League as we know it know didn’t come about until 1992, before that, we can the First Division.

Arsenal have been it in since 1904 after becoming the first club from the South of England to join the Football League in 1893 and have gone on to win the second most points ever: 6589.

Liverpool, meanwhile, top the table with 6675 points. They were promoted to the First Division in 1893/94 and went on the win it in 1901 and 1906. So they had a bit of a head start.

Everton finished third with 6547 points and perhaps surprisingly Manchester United are down in fourth.

Aston Villa, who were formed in 1874 and are therefore one of England’s oldest teams, are fifth with 5897 points. They won the First Division title seven times.

Right at the bottom in 40th is Luton Town, who only won 807 points from the top division.

It just goes to show how much history means in the grand scheme of things but not in the present, since Villa are currently down in the Championship after getting relegated in 2016 for the first time since 1987.

It also shows how consistent Arsenal have been throughout history and despite having troughs, the peaks have helped even out the points.
