Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal board have reportedly been in disagreement over what to do with Alexis Sanchez this summer.
It appears that not all is harmonious at Arsenal. Any conflict between Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal board was said to be resolved after the long-serving manager signed a new two-year contract. However, it seems there was still one major point of contention: Alexis Sanchez.
According to the Evening Standard, the Arsenal board were willing to sell Alexis Sanchez should they receive a bid in excess of £50m, but Wenger was adamant about keeping him. Evidently, Wenger won the dispute, as he’s been forced to remind people every week that he doesn’t intend to sell the Chilean and that Alexis will have to accept it.
The news will do nothing for the board’s ailing reputation over the years, as fans will now have more reason to believe they value money over success. Wenger, meanwhile, could come out of this looking good, provided he sticks to his word and keeps Alexis at the club beyond the end of the transfer window.
You wouldn’t expect the Arsenal board to go over Wenger’s head on this issue, but with three weeks remaining in the transfer window, there’s still plenty of time for another twist in the saga.
