Arsene Wenger has admitted that Jack Wilshere could still leave Arsenal.
Wilshere has 12 months remaining on his current contract and has been linked with moves to West Ham, Sampodria and Antalyaspor. However, there was also talk of Wilshere staying at Arsenal so he can prove he still has what it takes to play for them.
It now seems like a decision might be made soon on Wilshere’s future at the club after Wenger admitted the midfielder could still leave this summer.
When asked if Wilshere will stay, Wenger said, as reported by The Telegraph: “That decision is not completely made.
“I want him to have a chance to play somewhere as well. We have to decide that a bit later. I wanted first him to come back, he is coming out of a fracture. It is the first week he is back in full training and we have to sit down together and see where we go from there.
“I gave him a start at a very young age. He has gone through difficult times, I want him to have the career he can have and I am quite open on that. He has the talent to be regular, but he has to come back to competition in a consistent way.”
It sounds as if Wenger will allow Wilshere to leave if he believes it’s the best thing for his career.
While Wilshere was away on loan at Bournemouth last season, Wenger eventually settled on an Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka partnership in midfield. If those two are fit, Wilshere would rarely play.
After several years of injuries, Wilshere needs regular first team football to reach the level we all know he’s capable of.
At the moment, it seems very unlikely that he’ll get that Arsenal.
