Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is reportedly “desperate” to join West Ham United ahead of the new season, according to a former employee of the club.

Hammers insider, @ExWHUemployee as he’s known on Twitter, claimed the 25-year-old was keen to make the switch to the London Stadium this summer as he knows many playing and non-playing staff.

“Jack Wilshere is desperate to join us. I spoke about this transfer a number of weeks ago. He really, really, really wants to join West Ham. He knows a number of players here, he knows a number of the coaches,” he said on The West Ham Way podcast, reports the Daily Star.

“He’s more keen on us than we are on him at the moment – as harsh as that sounds. There could be some movement on him before the end of the window. David Sullivan didn’t deny it on radio and this is something I wouldn’t be surprised to see as he’s a big West Ham fan.”

However, United have said they’re not immediately looking to bolster their midfield which could hamper Wilshere’s chances of moving. They may not consider the Arsenal playmaker worth his reported £20m asking price either given his injury problems.

Wilshere spent last season out on loan with AFC Bournemouth, making 27 Premier League appearances, before a hairline fracture ended his time with Eddie Howe’s side. His contract is up with Arsenal next summer and the club don’t appear to have offered an extension.

As a result, his future will be speculated about while he remains at the Emirates
