Robert Pires believes that Kylian Mbappe should stay at Monaco for at least another season.

Pires reckons that Mbappe should stay put at Monaco.

The striker is only 18 and despite attracting attention from the likes of Arsenal, Real Madrid and Ligue 1 rivals Paris Saint-Germain, still has a lot of developing to do.

“Mbappe is a boy of 18,” Pires told Cadena SER’s El Larguero show. “I think he has to stay one more year in Monaco.”

Mbappe has been linked with Arsenal all summer, with the Gunners even said to have made a couple of record-breaking bids. However, while Arsene Wenger’s interest in the France international was genuine at one point, the chances of the club really forking out up to £124m for the teenager don’t seem high.

Pires started his senior career at the age of 19 – just one year older than Mbappe.

The fellow Frenchman spent six years in total at Metz; five in the first team.

He didn’t sign for Arsenal until seven years later in 2000 and that’s after a two-year stint at Marseille.

Therefore, he probably knows a little something about biding your time and not rushing your career.
