Mesut Ozil has given Arsenal fans the news they’ve all been waiting for since the end of last season: he wants to stay.

With just one year left on his current deal at Arsenal, Ozil‘s future at the club seemed uncertain this summer.

While there was very little talk about him actually leaving, unlike Alexis Sanchez, and the German genuinely seems to love London as well as the club, without the 28-year-old penning a new deal, it was hard to be completely optimistic.

Thankfully, the playmaker has confirmed that he wants to stay at Arsenal and will sit down to discuss his new contract when the squad returns from their pre-season tour of Australia and China.

“It is definitely my preference to stay,” Ozil said.

“It is such a great club and I have always said that I feel very good at Arsenal. Once everyone is back in London we will sit down and discuss the future.

“For now the most important thing is our pre-season and getting through the tour, training and getting fitness. When I’m back in London, we will sit down and discuss.”

It’s fantastic news as while Ozil has come under unnecessary criticism since signing from Real Madrid in 2013 for a club record of £42.5m, most Arsenal fans recognise exactly what he brings to the team and realise we would suffer without him.
