CSKA Moscow director confirms Arsenal’s interest in Golovin but denies approach

CSKA Moscow general director, Roman Babaev, has admitted that while Arsenal are keeping tabs on Aleksandr Golovin, the Russian club haven’t received any bids for the 21-year-old yet.

Babaev has confirmed that Arsenal have been scouting CSKA Moscow’s central midfielder, Golovin. However, the club’s general director also insists that no formal approaches have been made just yet.

“No, CSKA did not receive an offer from Arsenal for Golovin,” Babaev told Sport Express [via Metro].

“I admit that the London club scouts viewed Alekandr’s Confederations Cup. He was one of the best parts of our team.

“We are unconcerned about this information, and Alekandre as well.”

Football agent, Sandor Varga, who represented ex-Gunner Oleg Luzhny, recently revealed  that Arsene Wenger had asked him to keep an eye on Golovin, which he agreed to do.

Varga then claimed that a deal between CSKA Moscow and Arsenal was close.

Golovin, who the Gunners are said to be willing to pay between £10m and £15m for, has four years left on his current deal in Russia.

The midfielder made 37 appearances over all competitions last season, scoring three and assisting four in the Russian league. He’s also been capped 15 times for Russian and scored twice.

The young international has been at CSKA Moscow for five years since signing from Metallurg Novokuznetsk as a youth player.
