CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin could still be on his way to Arsenal.

  • There were reports of Golovin joining in June but nothing happened
  • New reports claim that move is close to happening
  • He could cost between £10m and £15m

There had been reports a few weeks back claiming that Golovin was on the verge of joining Arsenal, but nothing happened.

While we’ve all been distracted by transfer stories, this one has slipped entirely under the radar. And according to Russian outlet Sport Express, the move could still happen.

This appears to be based on claims from a Russian agent – not Golovin’s agent – that the move could go ahead for around £10m to £15m.

The story goes that Arsene Wenger contacted Sandor Varga, the former agent of ex-Arsenal player Oleg Luzhny, for a second opinion on Golovin.

Golovin had been previous scouted by Arsenal’s Eastern European scout, Pavel Kucherov, whose assessment of the player suggested he wasn’t ready for a move to England.

The report is conveniently timed after doubts about Santi Cazorla’s return, while Arsenal are in need of a midfielder ahead of the new season.

Let’s see if anything comes of it this time.
