Arsenal are apparently expecting Alexis to remain professional next season despite refusing him a move to a Champions League club this summer, claim Metro.
While the Gunners could make £50m if they sell the Chilean now, the forward is far more valuable to the club if he stays, seeing as they need to get Champions League football next season and he could be a huge part of that… if he plays ball.
Despite having just one year left on his current deal, Alexis loves football and it’s hardly a good advert for future clubs if he completely downs tools just because he’s being ‘forced’ to honour the final year of a contract he signed in the first place at what is still one of the best clubs in the world.
Manchester City have been heavily linked with Alexis for weeks, as were Bayern Munich, who have now ruled themselves out of the running.
However, Paris Saint-Germain, who were said to be interested at the end of last season, have supposedly returned for the 28-year-old with a vengeance and are desperately trying to sign him.
While Arsene Wenger is adamant Alexis won’t leave this summer, if he does, it won’t be to City.
