Arsenal’s rumoured move for Real Madrid midfielder, Mateo Kovacic, looks as if it could be dead in the water.

Arsenal’s interest in Kovacic has waned over the past two weeks with Real keen to keep hold of the midfielder and the Gunners not actively pursuing a deal.

Arsenal and Tottenham were both linked with the 23-year-old but are seen as ‘less viable’ options compared to AC Milan and Roma.

Now, not only has Arsene Wenger’s rumoured interest appeared to have dropped off, but the Croatia international’s agent has said that he’s staying put.

“There is no news, or rather, there is no chance that any will be produced, absolutely,” Kovacic’s agent, Nikky Vuksan, said.

“Mateo has a very long contract with Real Madrid, until 2021.

2Therefore I do not understand all of these rumours, all of this speculation about his future.

“Kovacic plays for a great club like Real Madrid and is very happy. Each day I listen and read news stories that explain a possible exit, but it is not true, at all.

“He has an optimal relationship with his team-mates and with the coach, therefore I reiterate it clearly.

“Kovacic will not leave Real Madrid, he will stay, (I can) safely (say that). All the rest is not true.”

The midfielder only signed for Los Blancos from Inter for £25m two years ago and therefore still has four years left on his deal.

Last season, he made 39 appearances across all competitions.
