The 23-year-old left-back was said to be close to joining Everton only for Arsenal to swoop in with a larger wage offer and snatch him away from the Toffees.

The news first broke around lunchtime on Friday with a report coming from Bosnia claiming that the player had agreed a deal with Arsenal.

With Arsenal expected to offer Kieran Gibbs a new contract, it is not yet clear what this all means for Nacho Monreal. He is wanted by Athletico Bilbao, a club he has said he wouldn’t mind playing for.
