Speaking to FourFourTwo recently, former Arsenal and Chelsea star, Paul Merson, claimed that Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are so far ahead of the other players at the club, they’re not even on the same wavelength.

The pundit explained how the two stars are so amazing that they operate on a completely different level to all the other players in the squad.

“You can have the best midfield player in the world, but if the centre-forward isn’t on the same wavelength then it’s no use,” he said.

“It’s no good one being on medium wave and the other listening to Radio Luxembourg. Ozil and Sanchez are both on medium wave; they’re so far ahead of the other players with their thinking.”

On one hand, I agree with Merson. Shocking, I know. Ozil and Alexis are on another level and, fortunately, manage to read each other very well, making them even more of a force. However, there are other players who are just as important to the team because of the job they do.

Say, Hector Bellerin and Laurent Koscielny, for example. They’re defenders so their football brains aren’t ever going to work the same as Ozil and Alexis’, since they’re attacking players. But the job they do and their place in the squad is just as important.

Just because one or two players are far ‘better’ than the rest, doesn’t necessarily mean the others are unimportant.
