Arsenal are flying to Norwich for Sunday’s game. Get over it.
For some reason this news has been met with incredulity, but it makes perfect sense. The Gunners almost always drive or get the train to games, but there are circumstances which make Norwich a little more difficult to get to than other major cities.
Speaking on Thursday, Arsène Wenger explained that roadworks are the reason for travelling by plane for Sunday’s match.
“When we made the decision there was some road work planned,” the manager said.
“Sometimes the access to Norwich is difficult. So we decided to fly. We do not fly a lot any more. We take a train or coach. This is an exception.”
The Gunners flew to Norwich for a fixture in 2012 as well, with Wenger explaining the situation just as logically back then:
“Usually we take the train and there was no train available, so in the end we decided to fly because we had to drive up on Friday afternoon at the moment when you never know how long it lasts.”
For some reason, people are finding this difficult to grasp. Jennifer Parkhouse, who also spoke out three years ago, has had this to say:
“They appear to live in some kind of a bubble, entirely separate from the rest of us.”
Well, Ms. Parkhouse, they literally have more money than the rest of us. They don’t live ‘normal’ lifestyles. There will be a crowd of almost 30,000 people watching them do their jobs on Sunday, and have paid a lot of money in order to do so.
So it really shouldn’t be that weird to see them using transport which gives them an efficient journey.
If you’re actually upset about this, you really need to get out more. Just don’t go somewhere by plane.
