Arsenal have confirmed that Josh Dasilva hasn’t signed a new deal with the club, and as a result he’s currently a free agent.

In the official programme for the Manchester City match, the club listed all the players currently under contract with the club, as first-year scholars, second-year scholars or young professionals. Dasilva wasn’t among them, confirming he didn’t sign the offer on the table for him at the start of the summer.

Dasilva can now sign for whichever club he wants, but the fact he hasn’t done so yet suggests he didn’t have a specific offer in mind to leave Arsenal for. There was reportedly some interest from Birmingham City, and youth expert Jeorge Bird lists the Championship club as a possible destination for the 19-year-old.

There’s also still a possibility the youngster has a change of heart and re-signs for Arsenal, but the longer the stand off goes on, the less likely that seems.

It’s disappointing to see, because Dasilva was starting to take on a key role for the u23s last season. He captained the team on a number of occasions, and was regularly involved in the build up play, even if he didn’t often get in the goals or assists.

This could’ve been the season Dasilva pushed for more first-team chances, but we’ll just have to see what happens now.
