Cesc Fabregas missed Chelsea’s most recent training session with injury, ahead of his side’s match against former club Arsenal this weekend.

Chelsea held a light training session on Monday, but Fabregas didn’t play any part in it, according to Metro. The midfielder isn’t expected to recover in time for the match on Saturday, so new head coach Maurizio Sarri will just have to do without.

That shouldn’t really be a problem for the 59-year-old though. He has summer signing Jorginho to partner one of the best midfielders in the league in N’Golo Kante. Then he’s also added Mateo Kovacic on loan from Real Madrid.

That’s enough for the first team on its own, but Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Danny Drinkwater and Ross Barkley are also waiting in the wings for chances. When you blow tens of millions on a new midfielder every single window you can probably afford one injury.

Tiemoue Bakayoko is technically still at Chelsea too, but he’s seemingly about to go on loan.

Players always have a bit of extra motivation against their former clubs, so it’s probably a good thing Fabregas isn’t set to play this weekend. Hopefully the Gunners can take advantage to get their first points on the board under Unai Emery.
