David Seaman thinks Arsenal would be silly not to offer Jack Wilshere a new contract, as the midfielder has something other players don’t.

Seaman was speaking to talkSPORT after the Gunners’ 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Wednesday night. Wilshere made his third appearance in seven days against the Blues, and scored the opening goal. Now he’s contributing on the scoresheet, and proving his fitness, many fans want the 26-year-old to sign a new deal.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper agrees, and said: “Arsenal would be silly not to offer him a new contract. I always said, Jack has got some magic, sometimes he reminds me a bit of Paul Gascoigne. He’s got that pass to unlock defences. You don’t want to let players of that quality go. They see things other players don’t and Jack is definitely in that league.”

The England international’s current contract expires at the end of the season. Wilshere said last week that he’s spoken to Arsene Wenger, and agreed to sit down and discuss the new deal. However, until that happens, there’s always a possibility that they don’t reach an agreement.

But the Hale End Academy graduate has stepped up well in Aaron Ramsey’s absence in recent weeks. So from Wenger’s point of view, it’s hard to see why he would turn down a player performing well, who clearly loves the club.

From the midfielder’s perspective, guarantees of game time when Ramsey returns are probably important too. But as long as the Arsenal boss can give him that, I’d expect the rest to be a formality.
