Shkodran Mustafi feels a lack of concentration let Arsenal down against Chelsea, and has urged his teammates to improve.

Arsenal looked dangerous during the 2-2 with Chelsea on Wednesday night. Unfortunately, they were as much a danger to themselves as they were to the opposition. The backline gave up a number of chances to Chelsea, but had their blushes spared by poor finishing.

Even then, they still managed to go behind after taking the lead. It’s not the first time such lapses in concentration have cost Arsenal points this season and Mustafi, who’s at the centre of it all, feels they must improve.

“I think we’ve done well at home, but in the Premier League it’s not enough only to do the job at home,” he said, as reported by the Express.

“You have to concentrate on doing it away as well, I think it’s something that gets a little in your head, we play at home and everything is easier, we play away it’s harder and at the end of the day it’s a 90-minute football game so we have to concentrate.

“I think that’s what we have to do, even when we play away from home it’s a game like every other game. I think today it was not about our injuries, it was a big game and the split seconds where we should have been more concentrated we weren’t.

“We got punished, but I think at the end of the day we deserved more.” Arsenal have lost just once at home this season, but have recently been involved in two very open and entertaining draws. Away from home, it’s been more a struggle.

We’ve won just three times on the road, though could count ourselves unfortunate not to have won against West Brom. There are plenty of areas that Arsenal need to improve in. Cutting out defensive mistakes is one of the biggest.

Mustafi has a significant role to play in that. With Koscielny and Monreal unavailable, it’s up to him to guide the younger defenders through games.
