Bordeaux president Stephane Moulin says if any coach ever wanted Malcom to leave the club, they’d have to take them to a psychiatrist.

The French club sacked manager Jocelyn Gourvennec over the weekend and hired Gus Poyet to replace him. Often when a new manager comes in they buy and sell a couple of players. Moulin says Poyet would have to be mad to sell Malcom though.

The Bordeaux president told reporters: “If there’s a coach who wants Malcom to leave, we’d have to take him to see a psychiatrist. The coach doesn’t have a veto on the sale of Malcom. It’s been said time and again that Malcom won’t leave.”

Fortunately for Poyet, he doesn’t seem to want to see the Brazilian leave anyway. He revealed in his press conference: “It was my first question. I asked straight away if Malcom would stay or not. They said ‘yes’. I said ‘Ok, now we can continue the discussion.'”

Of course, it would be very strange if a new manager did want to lose their star player. There’s a reason the media are linking the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur to the player.

This season so far, the 20-year-old scored seven goals and assisted six in 23 appearances. Considering his position out wide, those are very impressive numbers for such a young player. Bordeaux are also in the bottom half of the table in Ligue 1 at the moment.

That makes it even more impressive that Malcom is scoring and assisting so many, but makes it even less likely that the club would want to let him leave. They don’t want to end up in a relegation battle after all.

It looks like the Brazilian will stay put this January.
