Arsenal will go back in for Thomas Lemar should they lose Alexis Sanchez in January, but could face competition from Liverpool, according to reports.

Should Arsenal decide to sell Alexis this month, they will need a replacement.

That replacement remains Monaco’s Thomas Lemar who, according to L’Equipe, is very much a target for Arsenal in the January transfer window.

They report that Lemar was only thinking about a move in the summer, but the situation has changed.

Monaco are no longer competing in any European competition, and are aware that Lemar’s value may drop throughout the season.

However, this contradicts recent comments from manager Leonardo Jardim.

Jardim had said that Monaco have no intentions of selling mid-season.

“We are not in the habit of doing major sales of players (in the winter transfer window),” he said, as reported by the Evening Standard.

Arsenal could also face stiff competition from Liverpool.

According to Football London, Lemar may favour a move to Anfield in order to work with Jurgen Klopp.

As such, Arsenal are exploring other options.

In the end, much will depend on the potential sales of Alexis Sanchez and Philippe Coutinho.

As long as they remain at their clubs, it’s unlikely that either club will make a move for Lemar in January.
