Paris Saint-Germain will now pursue Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez after failing to sign Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe.

  • Mbappe is proving too expensive for PSG
  • They see Alexis as a cheaper alternative
  • PSG could offer Arsenal a convenient solution to their Alexis problem

The Parisians are the latest club to have attempted to sign Mbappe, only to find Monaco’s asking price to be far beyond what they’d be willing to pay. They are now prepared to pursue other targets and, according to La Parisien, one of those targets is Alexis Sanchez.

Arsenal have already fought interest from Manchester City and Bayern Munich this summer, and could now face offers from Paris Saint-Germain, who view Alexis as a cheaper alternative to Mbappe.

While they’re a bit reluctant to meet Alexis’ £300k-per-week wage demands, PSG usually have no issues about paying huge wages to players. They’re certainly more willing to than Bayern are.

Arsenal have maintained throughout the summer that Alexis isn’t for sale, and hope he’ll sign a new contract at some point during next season. However, Alexis has made his position clear by saying that he wants to play in the Champions League next season.

If PSG’s interest is serious, it could offer Arsenal a convenient solution. Selling Alexis abroad would be far more acceptable to the Arsenal fans than selling him to a rival, and while he would be very difficult to replace, Arsenal would be able to avoid all the drama about his contract next season.

Alexis is currently on holiday after reaching the Confederations Cup final with Chile.
