Danny Welbeck revealed after Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday that he and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have discussed linking up on the pitch several times over the years.

  • Ox has 11 assists over all comps
  • Welbz has scored three goals in four appearances against United
  • Striker confirms goal was something he and Ox have discussed

Although Arsenal’s first goal against United was lucky, the second was fantastic.

The Ox supplied a peach of a cross, which Welbz headed home neatly.

While it looked straightforward enough, apparently, this is something the two England internationals have discussed in the past.

“With Ox I’ve played with him for quite a number of years now,” the 26-year-old told Arsenal Player.

“We’re always talking on and off the pitch about getting that link up going.

“So he kind of knows where I’m going to be and I know where he wants to put the ball as well, so it’s nice.”

The Ox now has 11 assists over all competitions this season – seven in the Premier League. This is the most he’s ever managed while at Arsenal and proof that this season the 23-year-old has really pushed on and got his head in the game.

Welbeck appears to have returned to full fitness after the best part of a year sidelined with a serious knee injury as well.

While Arsenal’s win over United on Sunday was far from perfect, there were plenty of positives to take, which hasn’t been the case for a while.
