Karim Benzema has decided that the best way to get back at Olivier Giroud for taking his place in the France national team is to get petty.

  • Giroud has made 61 appearances for France; Benzema 81
  • Giroud’s scored 23 goals for France; Benzema’s scored 27
  • Deschamps recently slammed ‘unfair’ criticism of Giroud
  • Giroud’s’s scored 12 goals in all competitions for Arsenal this season

Benzema was dropped from the France team after an alleged attempt to blackmail a fellow player, Mathieu Valbuena, over a sex tape.

Since, Giroud has been given his spot and has gone on to flourish. In fact, despite making 20 fewer appearances, he’s only scored four fewer goals than Benzema, proving that he’s not really the inferior striker many accused him of being.

France manager, Didier Deschamps, even recently hit out at Oli’s critics after the big guy scored a brace against Luxembourg.

After a reporter praise Deschamps for sticking with Oli, he said, “Thank you, but that is his merit and I will not take it off him.

“The position of striker is always a big responsibility – it attracts a lot of criticism. Sometimes it is unfair like before the Euro, when he responded.

“I discussed it with him at length. He realises that he is not having his best season. He was a bit bothered by injuries, but despite everything, he scores.

“I trusted him by putting him in because I know what he can do in this type of game. Good for him.”

Benzema is clearly feeling a little peeved that his successor is actually probably going to do better than him and decided to get petty by liking a picture on Instagram, which plainly makes fun of Giroud’s lack of trophies. How original.

It just goes to show that Oli can’t win. If he doesn’t do well, he’s slated and if he does, his former teammates find a way to mock him.
