Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that he doesn’t share the venomous hatred for Arsenal that the Spurs fans do.

After Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to Southampton in their final home game of the season, the Spurs boss made it clear that he doesn’t care about where Arsenal finish because, ultimately, he wants to beat everyone.

“I don’t care about Arsenal,” said Pochettino.

“I want to win the league and be on the top. Arsenal? I don’t care what happens. We have to try to improve and be bigger and bigger and bigger. We need to look at ourselves and not care what happens with our neighbours. We need to create and build our own philosophy and ideas and then the consequence is to be above all opponents, not just Arsenal.”

What may rile some Spurs supporters, however, is the fact that their manager doesn’t appear to really understand the rivalry. Even though he claims he does.

“I understand [the fans],” the former Saints’ boss continued.

“It’s normal. It is important for them and for us, the same. But we are professional, we need to analyse things differently and focus on our way.  I don’t know what happened in the past because I was not here. There is too much worrying about Arsenal. We need to spend our energy on winning games. I don’t care about opponents. Arsenal and Chelsea are the same as other teams. We want to win. Not only this season, but next season too.”

Although a few Spurs fans might get their underwear in a bunch over the comments, I highly doubt the vast majority will care considering Poch is making complete sense and he’s got their club playing some of the best football in the Premier League (boo).

If Spurs lose their match against Newcastle on the final day of the season and we beat Aston Villa, we can nab second place off them, which will be quite hilarious considering how terrible we’ve been.
