L’Equipe claims that Arsene Wenger is willing to really spend this summer and bring in a top, top quality striker, despite his offer for Udinese’s Duvan Zapata saying otherwise.

According to the French media outlet, the boss wants to bring in one of Gonzalo Higuaín (lol), Álvaro Morata or Jamie Vardy(!), and he’s willing to break the bank to do so.

This is something the Arsenal faithful and not-so-faithful both want. A big name striker. Very few people actually want us to sell Olivier Giroud; he is useful and not half as terrible as people make out. In fact, his hold-up play has been key during some matches for us, even when he’s found it impossible to find the net.

However, we do need a first choice, clinical goal scorer.

Now, we’ve been linked to Higuaín forever so I think we can pretty much rule that one out. Although it does appear that we almost signed him at one stage, he’s too similar to Giroud to really be of any use to us. Sure, he’s just had a fantastic season for Napoli, scoring 36 goals in 35 Serie A performances (yeah, you read that right), but would essentially having a more in-form version of Olivier on the pitch help us?

Not to mention, the Frenchman’s release clause, which is a reported £74m. Apparently, he is considering signing a new contract with the Italian team in order to lower it to a more palatable £46m but even then… more than Mesut Özil?

Morata seems to be a fair choice with us reportedly making a bid recently and the player wanting to come. However, talk on the Juventus striker has cooled down considerably within the past few days suggesting that so too has our interest. Whether this is because Real Madrid have ‘won’ the talks to buy him back for £25m on order to sell him on again for double the price remains to be seen.

Jamie Vardy… well… I don’t think we need to go into that one.

However, despite the apparent interest to buy one of these world class strikers during the summer, who have we made an offer for? Duvan Zapata. This isn’t the big name we want and if this is the striker we sign, another aerial threat who can’t even pass the ball half as well as Giroud, the backlash could be huge.
