Roy Hodgson reckons Manchester United’s Luke Shaw is on track to become the next Ashley Cole.

After Shaw seemingly impressed for England while on national duty, the England manager praised him, saying he could emulate the former Arsenal and Chelsea defender.

“He’s [Shaw] still only 20 and if he keeps going, then he’s on track to be another Ashley Cole, a 100-cap man and I would advise him to study Ashley Cole, look at what Ashley did for England and set my sights on the same thing,” Hodgson said.

Hopefully Shaw doesn’t attempt to mimic every aspect of Cole’s career, considering his  controversial move from Arsenal to our London rivals for more money, earning him the nickname ‘Cashley’, didn’t exactly show him in the best light.

Before retiring from the national team, Cole featured 107 times and, personal opinions aside, Shaw has some way to go in order to fill his shoes. If he ever can.

Of course, I’m definitely biased here, but I can’t help but hope that Kieran Gibbs gets a good run in the England team. I feel like he’s grossly underrated and, although Nacho Monreal is currently doing a great job at left-back for Arsenal, I’ve always rated Gibbo.
