Now the 2015/16 season is underway, we at Daily Cannon have decided to award players with our very own ‘player of the month’ award.

August was exciting, frustrating, and then encouraging as the new season got underway, but one man was about as reliable as ever.

Arsenal left-back Nacho Monreal has become a key member of the side and it was clear he would be first-choice ahead of Kieran Gibbs heading into this season. The Spaniard has proven his worth and, in an unpredictable month, has been as reliable as ever.

An ever-present so far this season, Monreal has impressed in games against Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Newcastle United in particular. The left-back was arguable Arsenal’s best player in the win at St. James’ Park thanks to his calming influence on the ball, which can be underlined by a couple of impressive stats.

Monreal has averaged more passes per 90 minutes than any other Premier League defender over the opening four games with a completion rate of almost 90%. With Alexis Sánchez running at 100 miles an hour in front of him and a midfield heavily reliant on Santi Cazorla to play out, Nacho is key in building play for the Gunners and has lived up to the responsibility.

Going forward only Alexis (9) has won more fouls for Arsenal than Monreal (8), while the defender has given away just one foul per game heading the other way.

Nobody looked particularly good in the game against West Ham United but, otherwise, Monreal has kept tabs on dangerous wide men Wilfried Zaha (who completed just one of five attempted take-ons on the right-wing against Arsenal), Roberto Firmino and Moussa Sissoko to see the Gunners pick up seven points from three games.

If everyone else can continue the season in the form Nacho has started it, Arsenal will have a very good campaign indeed.
