As the transfer deadline approaches, some reports say Arsenal are set to battle Borussia Dortmund for the signature of Andriy Yarmolenko.

Last week, an agent who claims to work with Arsène Wenger on deals based in Ukraine and Russia said he had spoken to the Arsenal manager about Yarmolenko, but that a deal was not going to happen.

Over the course of the weekend rumours started circulating as Yarmolenko and his agent look for a move away from Ukraine. Back in 2012 the Ukrainian international was promised by the owner of the club he would be allowed to leave for a ‘bigger’ European side once they had won a league title. The attack-minded player contributed heavily last season as they won the league, but still hasn’t left.

Borussia Dortmund were said to be interested in his services, but it appears that negotiations have not gone well.

Should Arsenal really want him – as some reports say we do – we should now have a clear run at an incredibly highly-rated player.

Usually playing from the right wing, Yarmolenko is a quick and powerful player, very strong on his favoured left foot. The 25 year-old has 19 goals at international level and has netted against the likes of Uruguay, Germany and France.

However, it seems that Arsenal (and anyone else who is interested in the player) have left a move too late.

Maybe a move would have been more likely if it was launched weeks ago, but money talks. An enticing bid could still force the door open.
